Bid on this chair for your home!
Lori Porterfield (a CASA volunteer) began tole painting approximately six years ago on a dare from fellow soccer mom, Chris Faiella. Chris confidently told Lori that she can teach anyone to paint. Lori continued taking classes with Chris for over a year. After learning the basic tole painting techniques, Lori continued to paint in her spare time. Lori has completed several projects including “Tea Time” a highchair for CASA’s 2006 Celebrations Kick- Off Event. Place your secret bid today!

Mike Driggs recently retired from a career as a Hazardous Materials Specialist and Geologist and now is venturing into the art world in various media. Mike has a fascination with John Deere products and loves old stuff. “Growing in Motion” an antique child’s desk and chairs became a “canvas” for showing the evolution of John Deere tractors, from the first spade to the one of the latest models in current use. It makes a fun coffee table or a fun place for children to create their own art! Place the highest secret bid today and take this home at the Celebrations Kick-Off!

Rose Lester has been exploring the visual arts through a variety of mediums over the past nine years.  She currently is enjoying painting with acrylics.  Her simple, childlike style in this creation on the plastic planter pot depicts the children’s rhyme, “Star Light, Star Bright.”  Like a plant that is placed in good soil and well tended, her wish is for all children to be nurtured in an environment of kindness and loving attention.  As a marriage family therapist and lifelong advocate for children, Rose has a personal connection with CASA, providing art activities and experiences for CASA’s and their kids. "Last Cart to Margaritaville" - While this vintage drink cart once spent its days in the dreary back corner of a local antique mall, it is now ready to "fiesta like there's no manana" patio or poolside. The festive margarita party on wheels is the handiwork of best friends Danielle McKinney and Cristy Cortez-Sackrider, who love to get creative together and found that their lime-based beverage of choice only greased the wheels of inspiration. This medium of choice for this year's CASA project was glass mosaic, paint and--of course--accessory shopping which is considered the highest form of art by this dynamic duo. A few dozen broken plates and buckets of grout later, our once mild-mannered cart is now ready live life in the "limelight" at your next backyard party.
David Gordon is a third generation Kern County native. Currently Gordon is the Bakersfield Museum of Art’s Director of Education and Special Events. Besides the Museum, Gordon continues to design residential landscapes and exhibits his landscape paintings. Again the Spring is just one piece of art that demonstrates Gordon’s belief that atmosphere and depth perception are the most important aspects to any landscape painting. His need to clearly communicate depth in his work comes from a childhood spent in the southern San Joaquin Valley, where his eyes would stretch for miles before they would settle on a stand of palms, a distant mountain range, or a slow moving cloud.
