JUDGE ANSPACH APPOINTS 1000th
CHILD TO CASA
Terry Foley, Susan Gill, Judy Newman,
Cindy Stiles and Suzan Hopper began meeting with Judge Robert
Anspach in 1992 to bring the CASA (Court Appointed Special
Advocate) Program to Kern County. In September 1994 the first
CASA volunteer, Colleen McGauley, was appointed to the first
child. Since that time CASA has trained 344 CASA volunteers.
On May 10, 2005 CASA of Kern County hit a major
milestone during the crowded courtroom with CASA volunteers,
board members, family and friends along with the founders of
CASA present to witness Judge Anspach sign the 1000th
CASA appointment order. Judge Anspach indicated that he was
looking forward to signing the 2000th appointment
order.
Currently, there are over 3,400 children in the Juvenile
Dependency System and more CASA volunteers are needed. The next
CASA training begins on May 24, 2005.
